The day Pete was born

January 11th, 2009

It was such a happy day! Around 11:15 at night the decision was made that Pete was coming via cesarean delivery.

They got me all ready and Jason went out into the waiting room to tell our families that Pete was (finally!) on his way to meet us.

Our families had so many question! When Jason got back to our labor room they hurridly got him into scrubs because they were already wheeling me down to surgery. By this time they had put an epidural anesthesia into me and turned it way way up.  I was really hardly aware of things going on around me.

We got into the operating room. They made Jason wait outside for a little while. Then, they  brought him in and began Pete’s entrance into the world.  Jason did a great job of taking pictures of every step of his birth. At 12:17am Pete was born! Before I knew it Jason brought a beautiful little boy with a little brown cap on his head over to meet me.

It was so amazing to see what he actually looked like! We have been wondering for months.  I was pretty groggy but I managed to greet him a little. Jason and I quickly discussed out name options and announced to the waiting nurses and doctors that Pete Hollis had joined our family.

As a side note there was a funny story going on. The staff was trying to get Pete born as the first baby of the new year in our city. They were really disappointed when they got a phone call at 12:14am that a little girl had just been born. The staff was so disappointed. But Jason and I weren’t. We were just so happy to have Pete in our arms.

Another thing that went on in the operating room was a discussion about Pete’s weight. When the doctor delivered Pete she said, “Oh my! There was a 2-month-old in there!”

Then Pete got weighed. The staff took turns guessing how much he weighed. The only guess I remember was one voice saying, “uh 10 pounds 2 ounces”.  10 pounds 11 ounces came the official reply. So, Pete broke the record as the heaviest baby born (yet) in 2009. Congrats Pete :)

11:30am

December 31st, 2008

We’re still here. Things are going swimmingly so far. Nothing huge to report.

Our midwife went back to the clinic (which is across the street) to see some patients. She’ll be back when things get exciting.

We’ll try to report when things get exciting, too :)

We’re Here

December 31st, 2008
Not exactly what we pictured

Not exactly what we pictured

We are here at the hospital. It’s almost 9:00 in the morning.

Things are going just fine. Thankfully, Merrielle’s body has made some progress. We’re going to try a fairly strong medication called Pitocin to encourage things along.

There’s no real estimate of how long things could take.

A bed is available

December 31st, 2008

We called the hospital at 6:30am. A bed is available for us!

So, we’re headed to the hospital. I admit this is under very different circumstances than we pictured. But, we are very thankful that we get to meet our little guy soon.

We’ll try and update the blog as time and attention permit.

Please pray that we get to meet our litte boy today :)

Rescheduled, AGAIN!

December 30th, 2008

I called the hospital at 2pm to be sure we were still a “go” for labor induction at 3pm. The hospital is still too busy to handle one more patient.

We are scheduled (again) for 7:30am. We’ll see what happens…

This is all turning into a very exciting adventure!

Bumped!

December 30th, 2008

I got a call from the hospital at 6:22am. I thought it was my alarm going off so I didn’t rush to get it – oh, and I was fast asleep so I didn’t rush on that count either.

They are moving my induction appointment to 3pm today. All the beds at the hospital are full. There is no room. They are hoping by 3pm another bed will open up.

This is the craziest adventure!

Midwife Appointment

December 29th, 2008

I visited with Dian at the midwife clinic today.

Here’s the scoop:

My Health

  • I am healthy!
  • We are scheduled to induce labor tomorrow morning (12/30) at 7:30am

Baby’s Health

  • He has been growing for 42 weeks
  • He seems really healthy in there. Heart rate is good.

Other Notes

There is a slight chance that we could get bumped from our 7:30am appointment in the morning. But, otherwise, we will go to the hospital and they will give me some drugs to help my body start labor. They will repeat the dose every 4-5 hours until something happens.

We expect to have some exciting news late in the day on 12/31.

Please pray for us. There are a couple of long (but very rewarding) days ahead of us.

Thanks, Mom.

December 29th, 2008

I owe a huge ‘thank you’ so my mom for her tremendous help during this pregnancy.

My mom has regularly

  • cleaned my house
  • done my laundry
  • cooked meals
  • taken care of Katya
  • given me extra chances to rest & sleep
  • gone grocery shopping for our family
  • called with encouragement and advice

She has helped with all this while taking care of my grandfather almost full time (she gets up at 4:30am daily to help him with morning medication), working part-time, and managing her own household.

I do not know what I would have done without her gracious and unending support.

Thanks a million Mom! You have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.
